Fissure sealants are a type of preventive filling which does not require local anaesthesia or drilling your tooth. They involve cleaning your tooth surface and conditioning it to receive a flowable resin-based material which acts as a protective layer for the most susceptible areas to decay. The sealant flows into the grooves on the surface of your teeth and is cured to harden and prevent food and bacteria from trapping in these tight spots.
